Tried and true

Don' t you hate it when something is hyped up and you get so excited to
try it but it fails miserably to live up to your expectations?

Yeah, me too.
You learn pretty quick on Pinterest that just because something says pinner
said it was the best thing ever, it does not necessarily ring true.
Does that mean you shouldn't try it?
Heck no!
You should still try it for yourself, just know that it might bomb instead of being "the bomb" ;)

Today I thought I'd share some of my Pinterest successes with you.

~ From my "In the Kitchen" Board ~

Snickerdoodle Blondies
These babies were pretty delicious, must have been all that butter and sugar ;)

Substitute Greek Yogurt
I've substituted Greek yogurt for Mayo and sour cream so far and I tell ya,

I don't miss them at all!

Baked Onion Dip
This one is from one of my favorite bloggers...Ruthie!
I made it for 2 parties over the holidays and it went quick!
Simple to make but oh so good...perfect!

~ From my Luscious Locks Board ~

Honey and Oil hair treatment
This made my hair so sleek and shiny.
I do this about every 2-3 weeks.

Double Bun pin-up
This was one of my favorite ways to wear my hair when it was longer.
Took only minutes to put up and looked totally put together,
that's what I need in the mornings!

~ From my Beauty Board ~

Clean your makeup brushes
It's one of those little science experiments where your grossed out by how dirty your brushes are
but you secretly like seeing how much gunk is coming out.

Oatmeal and Baking soda exfoliant
This works way better than the St. Ives exfoliating scrub I was using.
It leaved my skin feeling so soft!  But only leave it on for a minute like the site says
...cause it can start to burn a bit after that.

So there you have it.
Those are some of my tried and true pins.
Hope you may have found something useful to try!

Beautiful Home: Halloween Decor...a little Pinterest inspiration

Since becoming addicted to Pinterest (follow me here), I have been collecting all sorts of holiday decorating ideas.  I mean, one could get lost on that subject alone on Pinterest am I right?  Lucky for me I have my trusty hutch which is the perfect place for me to display all of my decor.  If your new to the blog you may not know that my Hubsy is a very talented handyman.  He built this hutch for me as well as several other pieces in our home, including our fireplace/bookcase which is next on my list to dress up.

First I decided to give the hutch itself a little makeover.  The yellow-toned oak just wasn't jiving with our new gray-brown living room furniture from IKEA so I decided to paint it off-white to match our kitchen cupboards and be less offensive with the gray furniture.

Improvement?  I think yes.

Now to share my Pinterest inspirations....

{1} First up "along came a spider".  I just adored this idea so I created a little spidey of my own.  Mine is a bit more kid-friendly rounded version though. Either that....or he's just well fed.

{2} Secondly I printed out me free printable but did not have color ink...gasp!  To give it a little pop I added some colored scrapbook paper as a matte.

{3} Next I created my little "boo" print where the text was the focal point. I just used scrapbook paper for the background and then printed and cut out the letters to glue on.  Simple.
{4} Lastly I raised up my twig pumpkin on a candle holder pedestal to give it a little more presence.  I think I'll be heading to the dollar store to pick up some more pedestals of varying heights because I just love the way these look and will incorporate them for several different holidays.
I'm thinking ornaments on pedestals for Christmas ;)

the finished product

That's it for now though I'm sure I'll be adding to it and tweaking it over the years.

Like adding a swag or garland to make it TRULY Pinterest inspired huh!

From my Style Board

Oh how I wish I was a fashionista!

I LOVE clothes, jewelry, shoes, purses, hats, bags.....need I go on?
Just your typical girly girl I guess.

Does my current look line up with what I like?  Heck no.
I seem to be inept at piecing a wardrobe together.  So like any other smart cookie,
I turn to Pinterest for inspiration.
Here's a few favorites from my Style board.

We're heading to the beach in a few weeks and I SO wish I could rock this look.

Ok this is just to flirty to pass up but I may be getting to old to wear something like this....boo.

I'll take 'em all, I ADORE turquoise!

And since back-to-school shopping has got me thinking about fall already,
I'm dreaming of these cozy layered looks.

If you know me, you know I'm all about purple.
Especially the deep amethyst color of the above tank....

Summer Eats

I've been pinning like crazy lately and figured it's high time
I actually make some of the things I pin.
(see my side bar to follow me on Pinterest, I'd love to follow back)

I thought these would be great for summer with all sorts of picnics and get-togethers coming up.
Now I just need to decide which one to make first!

Chicken can get kind of boring so I'm always looking for new recipes to keep things interesting.
This one looks simple....my middle name.

Pinterest via: source
Seems like avacado is the food of choice right now.
Everywhere I look there are recipes or sales on them at the store.
I think this recipe looks unique and delicious.

Pinterest via: source
I adore zucchini, pretty much in any form.

Pinterest via: source
You can't go wrong with cheese, just look at that ooey-gooey goodness!

This grape salad looks like the perfect refreshing summer dessert, sign me up!

I tend to fly by the seat of my pants, trying new recipes when it's time to contribute to a party.
Hubsy doesn't necessarily think it's wise of me to experiment on others :)

How about you?
Do you like to experiment or do you have a
go-to recipe you use for summer picnics?

Thank you to everyone who expressed sympathy on my last post
it really is so appreciated!
