industrial farmhouse | wall decor

image via

As more and more painting gets completed at our little country house, we are finally starting to embark on the final touches of decor.  When it comes to making a house feel like a home, it's not until the wall decor begins to go up that it really comes together and feels like your sanctuary.  At least that's how I see it.

Farmhouse style is all about the richness of texture.  The more worn the better!  So I'm sharing some of my inspiration with those of you who enjoy this style of decorating as well.  Got a favorite?

1. DIY LOVE sign
2. old barnwood art
3. fine art photography - autumn
4. aqua bottle wall decor
5. farmhouse wreath
6. primitive candle sconce
7. hanging lantern

Happy Monday friends!
Make it a great week!

industrial farmhouse | lighting

When I first got married, I wanted everything in my home to be "just so" and look very "adult".  I think I was trying to convince myself that I truly was all grown-up ;)

Now I find myself gravitating to decor pieces that are constructed from substantial materials and perhaps a bit worn looking.  A reflection of how I view myself now ten years into marriage?  Maybe so!

I'm sure moving to the country has a wee bit of something to do with it as well.  Open fields, old barns, and run down bridges can be very inspirational!

One thing our sweet new abode needed was some new lighting.  And let me tell you, when it comes to industrial farmhouse style...the lighting is where its at!

Just look at these drool-worthy fixtures....such texture, such character!

1. chicken wire lantern
2. wrought iron sphere
3. classic bell pendant
4. harlowe wire and glass pendant
5. nautical lantern
6. whitney pendant

A unique light can make a huge impact on the feel of a room.  If you follow me on IG you'll know I went to my favorite source, Pottery Barn and chose this Rustic Glass Pendant.  Ain't she a beauty?!

I had so much fun picking out new lighting.
Are you in the market for some new lighting? I hope these provide some inspiration for you as well!

seven year itch | family room inspiration

We've been in our current home for about 7 years or so.  Much of our furniture is closer to 10 years old but sadly it is drooping and fraying and really looking more like twice it's age.
Sshhhh....don't tell my couch I said that, it has served us well and I wouldn't want to part on bad terms ;)
However there's no denying that the itch has begun to freshen everything up with a new look so I thought I'd share our inspirations with all of you!

The only hurdle is exactly which family room I will be making over ;)  For any new readers out there, we are in the process of trying to sell our home and move to a smaller home in the country.  It has been a roller coaster of an experience but it will be ending soon come hell or high water!  So the question remains, will I be remodeling our current family room or one in a new house?
Your guess is as good as mine....stay tuned!

Either way this is the color scheme I will be working from, although our wood choices will probably lean more towards darker tones.  Thanks again Pinterest!  Seriously, I don't know how I ever decorated our home before without it!?!  (You can follow me here)

We actually picked out a slightly more bluish gray for the walls...Rocky Mountain Sky from Behr.  Below is an example of the look I hope to be incorporating, including pieces from some of my favorite stores....Target and IKEA....can I get an AMEN!!!

2. Target Slipper Chair
3. IKEA Ektorp Sofa
4.  Amazon Natural Storage Bin
5.  Amazon Metro Rug
6.  Target Ruffle Shear
7.  Amazon Barnwood Trunk
8.  Amazon Chevron Accent Pillow
9.  Amazon Silver Serving Tray

I can't wait to get started!
Do any of these pieces strike your fancy?

gone coastal

photo via

The call of the ocean is undeniable to pretty much everyone.  It mystifies and lures the old and young alike.  Our little family is blessed to be able to take a beach vacation almost yearly and it always makes me want to bring some of the sea back with me and incorporate it into my home.  However heavily themed rooms can be overwhelming. I've always been one to gravitate more towards subtly, so these are the points I would keep in mind when putting together a room with a hint of coastal ambiance : )

- thick natural textures like wicker, sisal, and wood
- a breezy color pallet
- weathered finishes
- just a few coastal decor touches like shells, glass, and rope

Don't forget the personal touches, fill a bowl or container of shells you found or frame a photo from the beach that you took yourself.  Nothing can take the place of personal touches that speak to you and recall those memories and emotions brought to you by the sea.

Here's an inspiration board I came up with featuring all Pottery Barn products.  I would absolutely live at Pottery Barn if I could ; )

1. Bronze Bowl
2. Carved Wood Starfish
3. Sheer Drapes
4. Wool and Natural Jute Rug
5. Oversized Sand Dollar
6. Seagrass Chairs
7. Glass Buoys

Do you have a vacation destination that seems to linger in your thoughts long after your gone?  Have you ever incorporated your favorite locale into your home?    How did it turn out?  Tell me about it, and send me pictures if you have them.  I would love to see it!

Woodland Christmas

I'm ALL about Christmas right now (that may be "Let it Snow" playing in the background right now :) and truth be told I'm starting to panic that I don't have any gifts bought yet.
I truly hate to shop in December.  I'm not a crowds person and strive to get all my shopping done in November so I can sail on through December with nothing but fun and Christmas cheer :)

We are THOSE people that like to decorate early.  We usually don't host Thanksgiving and we like having our Christmas decorations up for a good while so we get right to it!  We were blessed to have warm weather this past weekend and got our lights up outside.  I usually make Hubsy wait until we see at least one other house in the neighborhood with their lights on before we turn ours on though.

I mentioned before that this year I want to re-vamp my Christmas decor.  I have collected a lot of decorations through the years,  many just from family members that didn't want them anymore, so really I have a mish-mosh of stuff.  Nothing wrong with that but I think I'd like to decorate a little more to my liking.

Enter the Woodland Christmas theme.
Being the outdoor enthusiast that I am I simply fell in love with the idea of somewhat traditional
looking decor with tons of outdoor elements thrown in.
Think tons of pine cones, wood, berries, and greens.
These are some of my inspirations that I have come across.  I am in love.

I'm a HUGE fan of birch so this centerpiece is right up my alley.
{2} Pottery Barn
Again with the birch ;)
I'll be branch hunting when I go to my Dad and stepmother's for Thanksgiving.
I've already informed Hubsy he'll be cutting up some wood for me.

These are so simple and I already have some white frames I bought at IKEA several months ago.

{4}via Pinterest
I'd love to do an outdoor version for my porch area, so simple and beautiful.

This would be for the porch area too, and I already have tomato cages to use, perfect!

{6}Pottery Barn
Can we just agree that Pottery Barn has the most gorgeous stuff?!  Their Xmas line is the center of my inspiration!  I adore these sweet nests filled with ornaments and presents.  I have some extremely fragile and extremely beautiful ornaments from my Godmother that I don't put on my tree for fear the rugrats will get them.  This idea is gorgeous....and safe.

Too easy and too cute.  I'll be adding pine cones to my "branch hunt" on Thanksgiving.

{8}Pottery Barn
Love this but making it a DIY, hope I can find some little birdies at the dollar store that
I can spray paint a metallic silver or gold.

This is such a lovely alternative to a traditional wreath.
{10}Pottery Barn
Another easy DIY inspired by Pottery Barn.  You can just use any old jar in your cupboard, fill with some fresh greens and a candle and voila!  Instant woodland ambiance.

Do you decorate with a theme in mind?
Or am I just weird?

Beautiful Home: Halloween Decor...a little Pinterest inspiration

Since becoming addicted to Pinterest (follow me here), I have been collecting all sorts of holiday decorating ideas.  I mean, one could get lost on that subject alone on Pinterest am I right?  Lucky for me I have my trusty hutch which is the perfect place for me to display all of my decor.  If your new to the blog you may not know that my Hubsy is a very talented handyman.  He built this hutch for me as well as several other pieces in our home, including our fireplace/bookcase which is next on my list to dress up.

First I decided to give the hutch itself a little makeover.  The yellow-toned oak just wasn't jiving with our new gray-brown living room furniture from IKEA so I decided to paint it off-white to match our kitchen cupboards and be less offensive with the gray furniture.

Improvement?  I think yes.

Now to share my Pinterest inspirations....

{1} First up "along came a spider".  I just adored this idea so I created a little spidey of my own.  Mine is a bit more kid-friendly rounded version though. Either that....or he's just well fed.

{2} Secondly I printed out me free printable but did not have color ink...gasp!  To give it a little pop I added some colored scrapbook paper as a matte.

{3} Next I created my little "boo" print where the text was the focal point. I just used scrapbook paper for the background and then printed and cut out the letters to glue on.  Simple.
{4} Lastly I raised up my twig pumpkin on a candle holder pedestal to give it a little more presence.  I think I'll be heading to the dollar store to pick up some more pedestals of varying heights because I just love the way these look and will incorporate them for several different holidays.
I'm thinking ornaments on pedestals for Christmas ;)

the finished product

That's it for now though I'm sure I'll be adding to it and tweaking it over the years.

Like adding a swag or garland to make it TRULY Pinterest inspired huh!
